Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) & Schema for Wix Blog!

Wix just introduced AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) and Schema for all your blog posts. This is great news because it will help with the SEO for your blog posts.

What is Google AMP?

Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) is a website publishing technology that creates web pages that load almost instantly on mobile phones.

AMP pages load way faster than other pages. That's because Google hosts AMP pages on its own servers and serves up the content directly on its site. Besides Google, many popular search engines, social platforms, content management systems, and eCommerce websites support AMP, like Bing, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, Medium, WordPress, Squarespace, Tumblr, eBay, and BigCommerce.

Google also gives AMP pages preferential treatment. Websites with AMP pages get:

  • a significantly increased volume of organic search traffic.

  • an increased engagement and conversions resulting from faster, better mobile experiences.

  • an opportunity for your content to be featured prominently in the AMP carousel on mobile search results.

The drawback of AMP technology is that it cannot deliver rich user experiences like animations, parallax, and more on AMP which many Wix users like to use on their pages. That must be why Wix took a thoughtful approach using the AMP technology just for blog pages and not for other pages.

What is Schema?

Schema.org, which is often called Schema is a project that provides a particular set of agreed-upon definitions for structured data tags. A structured data tag is a code that is added to your website to help search engines categorizing and indexing the content of your website.

When a page on your site is marked up with schema, then the markup tells the search engine what that content means. In the case of a blog page, schema tells the search engine, for instance:

  • Category

  • Date published

  • Date modified

  • Headline

  • Description

  • URL

  • Author

  • .......and much more

Schema was created by a collaborative team from Google, Bing, and Yahoo. There is markup for all kinds of content, not just for blogs. If you like to know more about schema markup, check Schema.org, the website for schema markup.

Websites that use schema rank better in the SERPs than sites without schema. According to recent research, less than one-third of all websites use schema. This means that if you use schema you have an advantage over the majority of your competition.
